Ellen Skerrett and Mary Lesch, editors of "Chief O'Neill's Sketchy Recollections of an Eventful Life in Chicago," will sign copies of the book. The event is hosted by the Ridge Historical Society. Copies of the book will be available for $30.
The book is a memoir by Chief Francis, general superintendent of Chicago police, who recalled historic events from the time of his arrival in Chicago just before the Great Fire in 1871 through the time of his death in 1936.
Ellen Skerritt is co-author and editor of several books about Catholicism and Chicago including "At the Crossroads: Old Saint Patrick's and the Chicago Irish." She is currently writing a history of Loyola University Chicago. Mary Lesch is the granddaughter of Chief Francis O'Neill.
