WOW what a great weekend!

WOW what a great weekend! First a group of about 12-15 kids ranging from 6th grade to in high school beat up a kid at 105th and Central Park. Some of these rocket scientists proudly wore their Queen of Martyrs sweats! 911 was called and they started to scatter. The dispatcher said "hopefully the kid who was injured will go home to his mother". No police car ever showed up. They were kicking in this kids head on the ground!
Next, another group of kids (proudly wearing their Queen of Martyrs sweats again) yelling to a few kids on a lawn wearing Mt Greenwood School sweats that they are the reason the economy sucks. That they are poor and have to go to Mt Greenwood School.

On both of these incidents, two boys from the same family M.....k. Hello.......parents!

The recent Fall newsletter

The recent Fall newsletter from the MGLRC only mentioned the Walgreens going up. They can keep their Dunkin Donuts. We do not need another 24 hour fast food chain in this neighborhood. But, they are removing the billboard on 111th and Kedzie, and adding new landscaping!! AND I forgot to mention that McKiernan park will be the next park to be refurbished.

I think it was mentioned in another thread, Dunkin' Donuts is in talks to open where Starbucks was to be. Shouldn't the Mount Greenwood Local Redevelopment Corp be working on bringing in businesses here? What have they been doing? For a $40k+ job, I think we should be seeing alot more progress and at a quicker rate.

No starbucks for Mt.

No starbucks for Mt. Greenwood. The logo was taken off of the sign on 111th and Kedzie. I wonder what other businesses will grab those spots? The buildings across the street from the park are still vacant. It's not easy to open a new business in this Chicago neighborhood.
Rugai did not mention who the Developer would be.

Excellent. Thanks, Peggyr, for the report.

I assume Starbucks is officially out of the plans. Who's the new developer of the project, anyway?

Also, if you could list a few concerns of your own that were not addressed, what would they be?

My husband and I attended

My husband and I attended the Town Hall meeting last night. There were reps. from the Police,Fire, Dept of Buildings, City clerk,Park committee, Peoples gas, Com Ed, Tax appeal, The Ag, Enviromental, the Lions and the Garden club, and Senior services.
Ald. Rugai touched base on the redevelopment of 111th and Kedzie. She did not mention an exact date for demolition, but she did mention Spring of 2009.
Some of the issues included:
~Seniors being scammed by phone solicitators
~A 13 year old and her friends were sitting at Mt. Greenwood park, and they were brought home by the police because the park is only for children 12 and under. The parent was concerned because the girls were sitting on a bench not causing any trouble. The head of the Parks committee assured the parent that it was a lack of communication, and the Parks are working with the Police, so this type of situation does not happen again.
~A man had an issue with the CVS on 103rd and Pulaski applying for a liquor license. He was worried about the older college students buying liquor for the younger students. Ald. Rugai was going to follow up with that.
~The Police reminded everyone to keep their eyes and ears open when out shopping this Holiday season, Make sure we leave lights on in our homes, do not leave our cars running when unattended etc.
~The incident at the Archer bank and the convenient store is still under investigation.
~Please call 911 if you see anything out of the ordinary in our neighborhood.
~Police urge more neighbors to attend CAPS meetings.
I hope I covered everything.

I have another commitment, but I would still like to attend. I encourage everyone who is concerned about business development, crimes and other issues discussed on this site to attend the meeting. And please report back about the issues and the plan going forward - if there is any.

I read an article in the Beverly Review that the Chamber, and the Alderman's office is hosting a Town Hall Meeting for neighbors of the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood on Monday Nov 17th at Mt. Greenwood Park, 7pm. Maybe if enough of us attend this meeting, we can get the ball rolling on some issues that have been addressed on this website. Rugai needs to hear what we have to say. But, it cannot be from just one of us, it needs to be from all of us!!

To protect what businesses

To protect what businesses we do have here in Mt Greenwood, can the businesses or the Chamber of Commerce get $ to pay for off duty cops to patrol our business district? Homeland Security funds available? For our homes, I wonder if lifting the ban on hand guns for our homes would prevent burglaries and home invasions. Pros and cons? Stats from cities where they are legal? The City clearly does not have the funds to protect us. They have decreased the number of cops on our streets citywide. Our own district has never had enough manpower. So is it up to us?

The problem with Everyblock

The problem with Everyblock is that it certainly is not updated as frequently as we would like. There's typically a delay of about a week, and that's just not acceptable for up-to-date reporting of crimes (although I do admit that it's better than nothing).

Since we don't have the resources to compile daily updates of crimes that occur in Mount Greenwood, Beverly and Morgan Park, we have to rely on outside sources - and you, our neighbors. So please keep updating us with any information you have as often as you can.

Everyblock Chicago has these

Everyblock Chicago has these crimes(above) listed.

The Ag's newly built 3 hole golf course was vandalized recently as well.

Mount Greenwood Militia needed. Can't count on any police manpower coming here.
