After speaking further with

After speaking further with Camden, we've learned that the CPD is not planning the transfer of any sergeants. Instead, he confirmed, six sergeants have been "detailed out" of the district to other districts on an as-needed basis.

Those moves are only temporary, acknowledged Camden, who did confirm that three patrol officers were, in fact, transferred out, although they were replaced by two patrol officers. Transfers, Camden said, are conducted by seniority and are voluntary.

Yes!! It was on 111th and Drake. We used to go and get the best hotdogs and fries. I think they had ice cream too. Its sad they went out of business. Pappys on 95th has dogs too I think and so does Marcos Beef next to Cardinal Fitness on 111th near Western.

Does anyone remember Willy's

Does anyone remember Willy's Wayside Wagon? It was a hot dog stand located on 111th Street just east of Central Park in Mount Greenwood. I think it went out of business in the early 1990s.

I remember going there as a child and that they had the best hot dogs around. It was not in a building or anything, it was just a little stand attached to the big building on the south side of the street. All this talk of Reds and Snackville Junction made me think of Willy's Wayside Wagon.

Seagulls attracted to

Seagulls attracted to cicadas:

I read an article today in The Daily Southtown that connected the recent influx of segulls in the Beverly and Morgan Park area to the cicadas. They have been munching on the cicadas all over the place. Apparantly, the gulls have also been spotted in Riverside, Palos Heights, Hillside. All the three areas are cicada hotbeds.

In Beverly, the seagulls have been spotted all around, but especially near Crescent Park. Meanwhile in Oak Lawn, only two cicadas have been spotted in over a week.

I heard that one cicada

I heard that one cicada makes the sound equivilance that a blender would make. Exiting my friend's house in Beverly this morning, I do not doubt that. The sound was so loud and annoying that I could not wait to get in to my car.

But it seems that Morgan Park and Beverly have been hit by the cicadas with much more intensity than the nearby suburbs. By my home in Oak Lawn, you would not even be able to tell that the cicadas are even here. But in Beverly, they are a constant annoyance. One theory I heard is that the cicadas are attracted to older trees, which are present in Beverly and Morgan Park.

It's interesting that you combined Reds and Kennedy Park. When I was in lower school at Morgan Park Academy, we would always have a picnic at the end of the school year at Kennedy Park. It was always fun and it was the teachers' way of rewarding us for all our hard work. We would always look forward to going to Kennedy Park because it meant the school year was almost over. We would always walk there and on our way we would stop at Reds. I always loved the food at Reds and I was sad when they tore it down.

My son also played T-ball at Kennedy Park and later Little League in Merrionette Park. Very fond memories of watching him at both places. My youngest son enjoyed going to his brother's games solely for the concession stand and playing with the younger siblings of the other players.
I don't mean to speak for either of them, but I know they both enjoyed the Happy Meals from McDonalds, especially when the giveaway had anything to do with Star Wars.

You can eat them. Check out the Chicago foodie site lthforum.com where they're discussing cicada preparation.

http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=12344&highlight=cicada

Are you serious about this?

Are you serious about this? Billions?

I guess you are.

According to this site, http://biology.clc.uc.edu/steincarter/cicadas.htm, the 17 year cycle is true, but different geographical regions are on different cycles.

In 2004, it happened on the east coast. This quote from a witness tells the tale: "Our 60 year old house and the surrounding yard are now covered with them. It was quite amusing watching my wife (who has never experienced the cicada before) sprint to her car with an umbrella over her head." (from here: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/03/0329_040329_cicadas.html)
