The playground is nearing

The playground is nearing completion but I have been told that there have been a number of trespassers. Most caught are from the suburbs and believe it or not we have had a few adults in there as well who should know better. If you drive by the playground and see someone in there, PLEASE CALL 911.

I ride the Metra-Rock Island

I ride the Metra-Rock Island train everyday and it is terrible. The station closes at 1:00 P.M. everyday and is not even open on weekends. Sometimes i work late shift and get back to 111th St. station at 10:15P.M. There is no secure area around. And in winter with the station closed you freeze. And the elderly & people with small kids? If you had to use the washroom you would have to go to the 22nd District police station. And the eyesore of the old Coffee Depot? Metra wants to make it a parking lot. Fine and dandy. But what about a 24hr Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks. That way the kids around ther could get a job and learn about respecting others. Metra could still have their parking lot and the donut shop could be built on the empty lot next to it.

Congrats to those 7th and

Congrats to those 7th and 8th graders at MPA. MPA has always been, and apparantly still is the school that you want to send your child to if you want them to learn Spanish (or French)at a young age. I'm not surprised at all to see that the school that I will always call home had such high places in the Spanish exam.

At MPA, they start you off early in the Foreign Language field. Whereas most schools do not even offer a foreign language until high school, MPA makes it mandatory as soon as you enter kindergarten, or as MPA calls it "pre-first." I believe that is a very effective way to go about things. Children remember more and pick up languages the earlier you teach them. The later they pick something up, the harder it is to grasp it.

I have MPA to thank for me excelling in Spanish at the high school level and also for being in an AP class senior year. In grade school at MPA, particularly in 7th and 8th grade, I struggled in Spanish and would get low marks compared to other students. But once I went to high school at a nearby institution, I was WAY ahead of the crowd when it came to Spanish. High school Spanish for me was easier than 7th and 8th grade Spanish at MPA.
