Folk singer Ella Jenkins,composer of national acclaim, returns to Morgan Park to perform her annual family concert celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

A recipient of the 1999 ASCAP Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, Jenkins was the first children’s music entertainer to earn the prestigious honor. She has been inspiring young audiences for more than 40 years, performing live, on award-winning recordings, and on television programs that include “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood” and “Barney & Friends.”

An artist reception for "Shedding Cancer," an exhibit of contemporary abstract finger paintings by Linda Nicola. The exhibit, which runs through Feb. 3, is intended to inspire and encourage viewers who are struggling with cancer and other illnesses, coincides with the release of Nicola's book that shares the same title.

Jose walks off the job to catch up with the woman, and the two bond during a meandering jaunt around New York City during which he tells the tragic story about what derailed his once promising athletic career.

The Saint Xavier University chapter of the Tri Beta National Biological Honors Society and the Latin American Studies Department will host a global warming symposium in the Saint Xavier University Warde Academic Center, located at 3700 W. 103rd St.

A main gallery exhibit showcasing original works contributed to the 37th annual Beverly Arts Center auction is the centerpiece of the Artists' Preview Party.

Among the artists who have contributed works to the BAC Auction are award-winning children's book illustrator John Sandford of Grand Haven, Mich., noted photographer Paul Kozal of Sea Ranch, Calif., internationally recognized photographer Mati Maldre of Chicago, and landscape artist Brian Ritchard of Chicago.

“Incognito,” Michael Fosberg’s one-man play about race, roots and self-discovery, is the moving story of discovering - after having been raised as white - that his birth father is black, not white as he had believed.

Setting out to find his father, Fosberg uncovered his own rich cultural roots as well as revelations about race and acceptance, family and history.

workshops held at the park fieldhouse that are designed to get people thinking about and creating designs for the mosaic totems that will installed in the new playlot.
