Designed by the non-profit Chicago Cycling Club, the 27-mile loop through the Southwest Side (called the Ultimate Neighborhood Ride) is part of a larger tour totaling 100 kilometers.
For the first time, this route explores Southwest Side neighborhoods such as Beverly, Morgan Park and Chatham.
Riders will also experience the old-time Commercial Avenue business district from the days when Chicago’s steel mills reigned.
There will be a rest stop at Ridge Park in Beverly. Then riders will head north to meet up with the traditional 35-mile route using part of the Major Taylor Trail.

The Mount Greenwood Park Advisory Council has announced that the state-of-the-art destination playground is complete. Residents, civic leaders and corporations came together to raise funds for a safe and fun space in the community for children of all abilities.
The grand opening celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20, and all neighbors are welcome all to attend. Come enjoy live music, free food, games and the many fantastic features this playground offers.

Terra Nova Films, Inc. and the Beverly Arts Center will present A Conversation with Jeffrey Lyons Sept. 26 following a screening of the film “Diminished Capacity” at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St.
An official selection at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and 2008 Gen Art Film Festival, “Diminished Capacity” stars Alan Alda and Matthew Broderick; the screening will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10.
