"Hizzoner," the critically acclaimed biography/drama of legendary Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, will be performed in September at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St.
Written and performed by award-winning playwright and actor Neil Giuntoli, "Hizzoner" is a gripping play that takes a personal look at Daley and his 21 years as mayor.
Authoritarian politician, family man and dynasty builder, Daley led Chicago from 1955 to 1976. "Hizzoner" touches on some of the city's most fascinating personalities and events from the Daley years including columnist Mike Royko, Jesse Jackson, Jane Byrne, and the 1968 Democratic National Convention.
Giuntoli has his own rich history rooted in Chicago, beginning with his great uncle, former Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak. He is a founding member of the Prop Thtr and "Hizzoner" has been the theater's most successful play in its 25 years. Critics have enthusiastically recommended the play and hailed Giuntoli's performance as a transformation that brings Richard J. Daley alive on stage.
