LSC or advisory council?
In February representatives from local school councils sued Chicago Public Schools over whether the Board of Education violated state law when it disbanded the LSCs of two high schools in 2003 and replaced them with advisory councils for each of the new, smaller schools.
The issue involves transforming local school councils - which nominate and vote for candidates for principal - into advisory councils - which merely select up to three candidates who are then chosen by CEO Arne Duncan.
Do you think individual schools should be allowed to hire their own principals through their local school councils, or should school advistory councils leave that decision to Chicago Public Schools CEO?
