Calumet Area detectives are investigating the alleged home invasion of a retired Chicago police officer in Mount Greenwood Wednesday. The retired sergeant fired a shot at one of them, and they fled.
Two men were arrested about 1:30 p.m. at Burger King at 11020 S. Kedzie Ave.
No charges have been filed.
One of the suspects allegedly approached the front door and asked the retired officer a question as the other suspect entered the house from the rear entrance, possibly to rob the house. The crime has been classified and reported as a residential burglary.
The arrests come just a month after the house of another Chicago police officer was burglarized in the 11200 block of South Albany Avenue.

We are being overtaxed and
We are being overtaxed and fees everywhere are going up or being added. What is our reward.....less city services. With no contract for the police for a little over 1 1/2 years, a huge manpower issue, the two cars assigned to Mt Greenwood now not being in the area a majority of the time and an extremely bad economy, I pose this question:
Should we have the right to bare arms and protect our homes ourselves?
In a recent St Louis news article, St. Louis City Leader Says Police Ineffective, Tells Residents to Get Armed
Tuesday, December 02, 2008
ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis city leader frustrated with the police response to rising crime called Tuesday on residents to arm themselves to protect their lives and property.
Alderman Charles Quincy Troupe said police are ineffective, outnumbered or don't care about the increase in crime in his north St. Louis ward. St. Louis has had 157 homicides in 2008, 33 more than last year at this time.
"The community has to be ready to defend itself, because it's clear the economy is going to get worse, and criminals are getting more bold," Troupe, 72, said Tuesday.
Troupe said that when he and residents approached a district police commander last year, they were told "there was nothing he could do to protect us and the community ... that he didn't have the manpower."
Police did not immediately return requests for comment. Chief Dan Isom told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he understands Troupe's frustration but doesn't support citizens arming themselves.
So is this our future? Do you feel safe in Mt Greenwood? Would you feel safer if you knew how to defend your home?
I am in need of some
I am in need of some clarification as far as the Police district is concerned. Is Beverly and Mt. Greenwood covered by the 2 beat cars?? Or is it just our neighborhood? How come the police are there to take two teenage girls home to their parents who were minding their own business sitting on a bench at Mt. Greenwood park? ANd noone responds to the 911 call for "mob action" between 2 groups of kids beating the s#$% out of eachother?
Personally when I am home during the day, I keep both my doors locked. I also have a security system and a big dog who answers the door before I do.
It bothers me to read about all of the violence and crimes so close to our homes. My son and his friends often visit the Burger King on Kedzie, and now that is a place where suspects were caught.
Is it true that the CAPS meetings are being phased out?
I signed up for the email updates from the 22nd district, and it;s funny that I haven't received ONE.
Do I feel safe? no. . .I don't. . .
2211 and another recently
2211 and another recently added car covers Mt Greenwood. These are generally one manned cars that cover a very large area. These cars, from the intelligence I am getting, have been on the east end of the 22nd district answering calls instead of patroling our area. There is a CPD Parks car that covers the districts parks. If you look at the 22nd district, you will see the many parks vs one car.Somebody had to call about the kids on the bench. With the vandalism that occurred at the playground, neighbors of the park are more vigilant. There may have been more to the story as well. CAPS will take your information but when it gets back to the district and headquarters.......they don't have the manpower. CAPS is just the middleman. My kids go to BK as well and I am very nervous. The bus stop on 111th and Kedzie needs to go. Another friend of mine on the 108th block of Troy had a woman approach her on her porch and asked to use her bathroom. My friend refused and told her her dog would attack her. When the woman walked away, a white van pulled up and yelled "Let's go. Someone called the police." She got in a they drove off. We are no longer safe.
Thank you for that
Thank you for that information. I think the bus stops need to go too! There has been a number of burglaries in the vicinity of 111th and Kedzie. If you read the Beverly Review's Police blotter, 111th and Kedzie down to Western are quite frequently targeted areas. there also seems to be alot happening at the school at 3800 W. 111th. Isn't that the Ag?? Alot of thefts reported. I guess anywhere you live you are not safe. I am happy to say that I do have many neighbors on my block who do watch out for eachother.
Heard there were shots fired

I forgot to mention that the
I forgot to mention that the same complaint about the beat cars are busy on the eastside was also mentioned in the email. The suspects are two black men. Looks like I may have to hire a security guard to hang out at my shop!!!
I have a feeling the police
I have a feeling the police would welcome your shop and be in there anyway for the treats. I got it! A 22nd District or CPD cupcake!
