ORIGINAL POST:
Morgan Park Academy has confirmed one case of swine flu, and Head of School Catherine Raaflaub suspects that four other students may be infected.
In a letter to parents released Monday, Raaflaub said that the school will send home sick students, teachers and staff who display symptoms of the flu. They will not be allowed to return to the school, located at 2153 W. 111th St., until at least 24 hours after they "no longer have a fever or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medication."
Last week the Chicago Department of Public Health announced that it would be setting up free clinics at six city college locations to administer two million doses of the swine flu vaccine expected to be sent to the city in weekly shipments of 50,000-150,000 doses from the federal government.
The state Department of Public Health has confirmed that - so far this season - 19 residents of Illinois have died from H1N1.
