Sooner than you think school will let out for summer, and parents will be frazzled about keeping their children busy and productive.

The Beverly Arts Center can keep young minds learning, creating and having fun during its Summer Arts Experience, a top-of-the-line interdisciplinary art camp offering music, drama, dance, ceramics, computers, film and visual arts for children age 5 to 12 years in five two-week sessions.

Offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Summer Arts Experience camps feature different, age-appropriate curriculums each session so students can take more than one session without repeating lessons. Sessions are: Dare to Dream, June 19-26; Art Everywhere!, July 1-10; Pure Imagination, July 15-24; A Madcap Adventure, July 29-Aug. 7; and Feel the Beat, Aug. 12-21.

“Our Summer Arts Experience gives students a taste of everything from music to movies, dance to drama, computer arts to ceramics,” said Emily Dugan, Artistic Director for the BAC School of the Arts. Dugan added that campers will enjoy weekly live performances or films in the BAC main stage theater that are combined with special workshops and activities.

Summer Arts Experience instructors are professionals who are working in their artistic fields. Camp Director is Erin Rehberg, a dance instructor and choreographer who is currently Artistic Director of core project, a movement-based interdisciplinary performance group, and working on her MFA at Columbia College.

Instructors include BAC dance teacher Maureen Allen, BAC art teacher Michelle Rettker, BAC drama instructor and director Anthony Whitaker, BAC coordinator of Music Programs Andre Porter, ceramics instructor Amy Wenerski, and Moraine Valley Community College computer graphics instructor Kristine O’Reilly. Camps are held in the Beverly Arts Center.

“Activities are geared to having fun while you’re learning and creating,” Dugan said.

Registration is open now for Summer Arts Experience and other summer camps and programs at the Beverly Arts Center. BAC members receive 10% off tuition, and the 10% early registration discount will be offered through May 1.
